Our Logo

The image in our JFI web logo is from the early days of research on metals at the institute. "Field emission from nickel surfaces," Robert Gomer, Journal of Chemical Physics volume 21 p. 293 (1953). The image is adapted from Figure 26, whose caption reads "Figure 26: 100 nickel surface with oxygen overlayer. 10^{-5} millimeter pressure of O_2. .1 microamp, 20,000 volts." Discoveries about the effect of oxygen on nickel surfaces have continued to the present day at the JFI.

High-resolution versions of the whole logo including the words are available here on our internal site.
