JFI Director's Award
This fellowship recognizes outstanding young scientists working in the James Franck Institute and the selected fellows will carry the title throughout their tenures at UChicago including all its benefits. Fellows are selected on the basis of their academic achievement and the promise of their scientific research. Applications focused on innovative and cross-disciplinary research are especially encouraged.
This fellowship is a one-time $15,000 award, to go directly to the postdoctoral scholar for use in funds for travel, professional development, supplies, or salary top-off. All fellows will be invited to participate in cohort-building and career development opportunities throughout their employment as a postdoctoral fellow.
Eligibility:

Doctoral degree is anticipated within 6 months and/or has been awarded in the past 12 months.

Endorsement from at least two JFI faculty members.
Application Materials: (1) C.V.; (2) 2-3 letters of recommendation; (3) Letter from JFI faculty sponsors; (4) 1 page statement of research interests

JFI Travel Award
Application for JFI Travel Award to enable trainees to attend and present their research at a scientific conference between 6/1/2022-5/30/2023. The award will be for $600 towards reimbursement of travel expenses (hotel & transportation). Applications for the forthcoming year will be considered starting 6/1.
Application Materials:

Provide a statement (no more than 500 words) describing how this specific conference fits into your professional development goals and the type of presentation you expect to give (e.g. poster or talk).

Anticipated travel budget, including an explanation of the source of other funds

A brief note from the advisor stating their support for your participation in the conference.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

Be a graduate student or post-doctoral trainee in the James Franck Institute at the time of application and travel.

Priority will be given to those who have not previously received an award.

Personal Statement, Budget, and Advisor Note will be the primary means of selection

Consideration will be made to distribute awards equitably across JFI groups. No more than two applications per group.
