1. Inside an Avalanche This image depicts the rearrangements inside a granular packing under uniaxial compression simulated with LSDEM.
2. The image is the electron diffraction pattern from 4 layers of WS2 that is stacked with 4 degree twist between each layer.
3. An Aggregate of Granulobots: Granulobots are robotic units capable of self-assembling into cohesive, active and reconfigurable aggregates that exhibit tunable solid or liquid-like behaviors.
4. Swollen fruit from Malva Nut tree in the water.
5. Exciton Populations. The plot shows the time evolution of the populations from the eigenvector expectation values for specific states of an exciton density matrix.
6. The image is a super-resolution microscopy image of the contractile machinery within a single U2OS cell.
7. Dance of order and disorder of nanoparticles: a testament to the creative forces that shape our world
8. This is a fluorescence image of Cesium atoms trapped in a triangular optical lattice.
9. An illustration of an isolated blob of turbulence far away from the boundaries. This visualization portrays the trajectories of introduced tracers within the turbulent blob.
10. This pixel-enhanced scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image represents Ti2CCl2 MXene grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The 2D layers of this material grew perpendicular to the substrate.
11. It shows stains for cell membrane and nucleus for epithelial tissues prepared with different levels of physical constraint (small to large circles indicate increasing amounts of constraint).
12. This visualization illustrates a single-shot collision of eight identical vortex rings using Lagrangian trajectories at an initial Reynolds number of approximately 1,000.
13. “Silicon hierarchy”: We fabricated an efficient meso- and microscale photoactive material showing a multilayered porous structure.
14. The 2D layers of this material grew perpendicular to the substrate and then folded into microspherical structures.
15. This is a fluorescence image of Cesium atoms trapped in a triangular optical lattice inside a glass cell under ultra-high vacuum.
16. Cracked interface of a dried solution on glass, suggesting the intricate nature of sol-gel chemistry.
17. This visualization illustrates the long-time trajectories of tracers that are transported by eight vortex rings. The swirling motion depicts the vorticity concentrated within their atmosphere.
18. The remarkable protrusion of a nanoporous gold ligament, its vibrant green pseudo-coloring embodying the ethos of eco-conscious innovation and an elevated, sustainable approach to nanotechnology.
19. Golden device for the microscopic world: a gateway to an inspiring universe that exists just beneath our fingertips.
20. This is a glass cell under ultra-high vacuum which is used to trap cold atoms.
21. A series of turbulent energy field snapshots. Despite originating from identical experimental conditions, the turbulence undergoes nonlinear evolution resulting in entirely distinct flow fields.
22. In a vivid dance of color, the cardiac cells reveal themselves. The blue-stained nuclei, the heart's hidden wisdom, are intertwined with red myofibrils, the passionate threads of life.
23. Spontaneous pattern formation in a driven atom cloud. By fast modulation of the external magnetic field, different density wave patterns are spontaneously formed in an initially uniform sample.
24. Rock rain: each rock (salt crystal inside gel), like a miniature masterpiece, dances through the gel, creating a symphony of motion and grace.
25. A turbulent heart’- Despite originating from identical experimental conditions, turbulence undergoes nonlinear evolution resulting in entirely distinct flow fields.
26. Iridescent splash”: Pictured here is a colorful surface under microscope showcasing the effect of nanoscale porosities and light scattering on the wet-etched silicon surfaces.
27. Levitation of ice particles in a thermal cell. A large number of ice crystals display collective dynamics, where the top plate (outside the image) is held at 77K and the bottom plate at 25K
28. Golden fingers”: Exploring the beauty of complexity with this electron microscope image, capturing the elegance of nanoscale porous gold fingers and protrusions.
29. Interconnects”: Graphene oxide wrinkles bridging the nearby silicone micropyramids.
30. A series of turbulent energy field snapshots at a moment. Despite identical experimental conditions, the turbulence undergoes nonlinear evolution resulting in entirely distinct flow fields.
31. A microscale wax flower grown on rice leaf, taken using scanning electron microscopy.
32. “Acidic footprint”: We created sponge-like silicon surfaces by metal assisted chemical etching.
